2016

Children of Helen Alliance Inc. Scholarship Application

High School students of St. Lucian or Caribbean descent who live in Palm Beach, Dade or Broward Counties may apply for this scholarship. The recipient will be a 2020 high school graduate and must be accepted to an accredited institution. Please review the eligibility criteria and application deadlines in the corresponding sections below for further explanation regarding this scholarship.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. The School must be nationally or regionally accredited.

  2. Must enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours in the first term.

  3. Minimum grade point average of 3.0 (copy of the official transcript must be provided at the time of application)

  4. Must submit a copy of the acceptance letter from college/university

  5. Minimum of 500-word essay (explain why you chose your program and how you will use your degree to impact your St. Lucian or Caribbean community).

  6. Must have community service hours or extracurricular activities.

  7. Must submit two letters of recommendation. ( 1 academic, 1 community or extracurricular)

  8. Must be of St. Lucian and Caribbean descent. (For proof of heritage, documents can be birth certificates, baptismal papers or passports of applicants or parents.)

  9. Must complete an interview with the Children of Helen Scholarship Committee on April 18th, 2020.

Application Checklist:

  • The essay must be in a Microsoft Word document with 12.0 fonts in Times New Roman and double-spaced.

  • Two letters of recommendations

  • Copy of official transcript

  • Copy of college/university acceptance letter

  • Proof of Heritage

 

Application Deadline: The application and required documents must be submitted by Monday, March 16th, 2020. Application forms can be obtained at https://www.childrenofhelenalliance.org/educational-assistance. Applicants selected for the interview portion will be notified by Thursday, April 2nd, 2020. Successful scholarship recipients will be notified by Saturday, May 11th, 2020, after completion of the interview on April 18th, 2020.
